Shape the Future of Tech Education
Join a team of dedicated engineers, researchers, and mentors committed to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and pragmatic mastery in the heart of Austin's silicon hills. We are building more than a school; we are building an ecosystem for the next generation of engineers.
Our Culture & Environment
At Tech Skills Lab, we believe that the environment in which we work directly impacts the quality of education we provide. Since our founding in 2018, we have cultivated a space that prioritizes collaborative problem-solving and technical depth. Our office in Austin is designed to be more than just a workplace; it is a hub for innovation where instructors and staff members work side-by-side to evolve our curriculum and support student success. We avoid the typical corporate silos and instead embrace a functional, transparent hierarchy where the best technical arguments win.
We maintain a high-contrast 'Lab' aesthetic that mirrors the rigorous production environments our students prepare for. This commitment to realism extends to our internal operations, where we utilize the same deployment pipelines and architectural patterns we teach in our classrooms. We value transparency, technical curiosity, and the drive to stay ahead of the rapidly changing technology landscape without relying on hollow marketing trends or generic industry buzzwords. Our internal communication is direct, and our goals are clearly defined by the success and placement of our graduates.
Our team members are encouraged to spend 10% of their time on independent research and development, ensuring that our instructional methods remain aligned with the latest advancements in cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems. We foster a culture where every voice is heard, from our senior architects to our junior administrative staff, creating an inclusive atmosphere that celebrates diverse perspectives and shared technical achievements. This collaborative approach allows us to iterate on our curriculum in real-time based on shifts in the enterprise landscape.

Our Hiring Process

Initial Application Review
Our operations team reviews your resume and portfolio to assess your technical background and experience in the industry. We look for a history of pragmatic problem-solving and a commitment to continuous technical improvement. We respond to every application within five business days to respect your time.
Technical Assessment
Candidates for technical roles will participate in a practical lab exercise or a code review session that mirrors the types of challenges our students face in production environments. This is not a generic whiteboard test, but a real-world scenario involving infrastructure failures or security vulnerabilities that requires methodical debugging and architectural thought.
Culture and Mission Fit
You will meet with members of our leadership team, including our CEO Marcus Thorne, to discuss our core values, your professional goals, and how you can contribute to the growth of Tech Skills Lab. We want to understand what drives your interest in technical education and how you approach collaborative engineering challenges within a flat organization.
Final Interview & Demo
Instructional candidates will deliver a 30-minute demonstration lesson on a technical topic of their choice to a small group of our current staff. This helps us assess your ability to communicate complex topics clearly and engage with technical questions in real-time.
